Donations

The Hazel Woodhams Memorial Fund has two distinct aims:
  1. research into the danger of co in any environment, such as camping, boats or caravans, and
  2. the support for forensic anthropology students.
Two separate 'community' accounts have been created at HSBC to enable anyone who wishes to donate to do so for one or the other area. Donations can, of course, be split as well. The HSBC community accounts offer free banking for small non-profit-making organisations, such as ours. Below are more details about the two but there are a few important issues to address before we can go into any detail:

The Hazel Woodhams Memorial Fund is not a registered charity. We looked at the UK Charity Commission's website and they advise organisations such as ours not to register until a certain amount of activity and a certain level of donations are reached. Becoming and being a charity is a lot of extra work and it is not always necessary to be a charity in order to do good work. Despite the fact that we are not a charity, we will conduct most of our activities just as if we were a charity. We will produce Annual Reports and anyone interested can ask for those.

CO Research
We are a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group (APPCOG) and have started a research interest group on LinkedIn called co▼research (more details in the 'CO Issues' section soon). There are two reasons why we ask for donations:

  1. To support the research directly by purchasing equipment or paying for consumables (any purchase will only be done after a minimum of three quotes have been compared)
  2. To pay for travel expenses to CO research related meetings or conferences (only reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation will be covered)
